Billboard Music Awards ceremony was held on May 1 in Los Angeles. While Grammy winners are chosen by music professionals, Billboard Music Award finalists are selected based on sales, streaming, radio broadcasting, tour performance and audience engagement, and of course ranking on Billboard top-list. This data is tracked throughout the year by Billboard and their partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound.

Judging by the results, at the very top of the sales and popularity are musicians from the Universal Music Publishing Group; here we will only mention some of the most successful:

  • Drake made history by becoming an artist who received highest number of Billboard awards – he received 12 of them (he got 17 nominations), including Top Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Radio Song Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Rap Album, Top Rap Artist…
  • Ariana Grande was nominated 9 times, out of which she won in two categories – Billboard Chart Achievement (fan-voted) and Top Female Artist.
  • Cardi B received 21 nominations, which was the highest number of nominations this year, and she won 6 awards. Maroon 5 received 4 awards of a total of 7 nominations.
  • The song “Girls Like You”, a hit by Maroon 5 and Cardi B, has earned 4 Billboard Awards for these musicians: Top Hot 100 Song, Top Collaboration, Top Radio Song and Top Selling Song.
  • We must also mention Mariah Carey who won a very special award: Icon Award.
